国内主要用材产地为俄罗斯和中国东北地区,椴木的白木质部份通常颇大,呈奶黄白色,逐渐并入淡至棕红色的心材,有时会有较深的条纹。这种木材具有精细均匀纹理及模糊的直纹。椴木机械加工性良好,容易用手工工具加工,因此是一种上乘的雕刻材料。钉子、螺钉及胶水固定性能尚好。经砂磨、染色及抛光能获得良好的平滑表面。干燥尚算快速,且变形小、老化程度低。干燥时收缩率颇大,但尺寸稳定性良好。椴木重量轻,质地软,强度比较低,属于抗蒸汽弯曲能力不良的一类木材。没有心材抗腐力,白木质易受常见家具甲虫蛀食。可渗透防腐处理剂,材质较软，有油脂，耐磨、耐腐蚀，不易开裂，木纹细，易加工，韧性强。适用范围比较广，可用来制作木线、细木工板、木工艺制品等装饰材料。
