About Lotech Deep Penetrating Sealer (DPS)

Lotech DPS is an environmentally friendly, non-toxic, non-flammable, odorless, clear, water-soluble liquid compound, which is safe and easy to use. Lotech DPS outlasts and outperforms every other sealant on the market today. It is inorganic and based on natural minerals, affecting neither your health nor the environment. Further Lotech DPS can be stored for extended periods.

How does it work?

Lotech DPS penetrates below the surface and chemically reacts with the alkali and lime found in concrete. The two stages reaction occurs in concrete (especially calcium hydroxide CaOH2). The first stage; an air-silicate gel is formed, which then turns into a glass-like crystalline structure. The second stage; during the reaction between the Lotech DPS silicate and the calcium hydroxide in the cement, the hydroxide group is vaporized. In short, the chemical reaction ensures that the impregnated layer is dried. This reaction creates a silica gel membrane within the pores and capillaries of the concrete, permanently sealing it against the ingress of moisture yet allowing the concrete to breathe. Over a period of time(usually 28-56 days) the silica gel membrane hydrates and solidifies into a crystalline structure, increasing the hardness and strength of both new and old concrete. Lotech DPS has the ability to extend the lifetime of concrete structures by reducing moisture vapor emissions and permanently stopping the penetration and flow of water and water-borne contaminants such as rain, salts, CO2, oils and chemicals, both on the positive or negative side. Lotech DPS can be used on most old and new concrete and cementitious surfaces.

The application advantages

Lotech DPS permeates into the concrete and chemically reacts with this alkali, penetrating the surface by up to 2-3cm to become a permanent part of the concrete - not just a surface coating. Most other sealant applications are surface treatments and, by their own chemical compositions, will react negatively with the moisture and alkali in the concrete and soon peel off or leach out due to this aeration and deterioration. If there is foot or vehicular traffic most sealants on the market will wear off in weeks due to physical abrasion, leaving the concrete unprotected. Recommended Uses

Lotech DPS can be used on most old and new concrete and cementitious surfaces. DPS has the ability to extend the lifetime of concrete structures by protecting them against the elements to which they are subjected to on a daily basis, such as rain, salts, oils and chemicals. DPS is recommended for bridges, reservoirs, sewage and water treatment plants, underground vaults, secondary containment structures, foundations, tunnels and subway systems, swimming Pools, parking structures.

Preparatory Work

Surface Preparation

•Treated concrete surfaces clean and free of laitance, dirt, films, paint, coatings or other foreign matter.

•Structural defects such as cracks, faulty construction joints and honeycombing should be poured with DPS and then repaired. It should be noted, however, that Lotech DPS is not designed for use in expansion joints or chronic moving cracks.

•Prior to the application of Lotech DPS, concrete surfaces must be thoroughly wetted with clean water to control surface suction, ensure thepenetrating and thegrowth of the crystalline formation deep within the pores of the concrete. Excess surface water should be removed before the application.

Application

•The Lotech DPS treatment should be applied with a semi-stiff bristle brush, or with specialized spray equipment.

•For normal applications, the spraying amount is 0.5 lb./ sq. yd (0.25kg/m2). For construction joint surfaces, the total coverage rate is 1.0 lb./sq. yd. (0.5kg/m2). When a second spraying is required, it should be applied after the first coat has penetrated but the surface is still moist.

•A misty fog spray of water must be used for curing the Lotech DPS treatment. To spray Lotech-treated surfaces three times for 24 hours is sufficient except for hot, dry weather. During this period, the Lotech treatment must be protected from rainfall, frost and puddle of water.

•The Lotech treatment should be keep out of rain in 4 hours, or freezing conditions.
