Classification of types of enclosures

NEMA MG-1 Part5. Defines the degree of Protection provided by enclosures for rotating machines, commonly known as “IP” code.

Degrees of protection

All Bulluck motors are protected to IP55 as standard, Higher levels are available on request.

Rating plate makings

NEMA MG-1 Parts 10 to20. Specifies the information that should be included on the motor nameplate.

Classification of methods of cooling

NEMA MG-1 Part 6. Assigns designation to the methods of cooling electric motors, commonly known as ‘IC’ code. A standard totally enclosed fan cooled motor is IC411 using the simplified notation.

Mounting arrangements and types of construction

NEMA MG-1 Part 4. Assigns designation to the methods of cooling electric motors.

NEMA MG-1 Part 10 to 13. Specifies the service conditions which are suitable for an electric motor, e.g. altitudes, ambient temperatures, voltages, frequencies, etc.

NEMA MG-1 Part 1,10,12. Specifies designations relating to starting performance for torque and current, and also pullup and pullout torque.

NEMA MG-1 Part 7. Specifies limits of vibration severity.

Noise level limits

NEMA MG-1 Part 9. Specifies noise level limits in Sound Power for electric motors.

Tests

IEEE112. This standard sets out the test requirements for electric motors. It defines different types of tests and test arrangement, including overspeed, temperature rise, vibration, noise, high potential and locked rotor.
